Music Therapy for Parkinson’s with the VNA

Music Therapy for Parkinson's with the VNA is an engaging movement class targeting posture improvement and engaging muscles related to improving gait. A certified music therapist leads a group exercise that incorporates neurological music therapy, matching gait to rhythm, breathing techniques, and a series of vocal exercises. This class is in partnership with the VNA Music Therapy Department.

Caregiving 101 Class

Caregiving 101 was designed by the Alzheimer and Parkinson Association for caregivers of loved ones in the various stages of neurologic disorders. This class is constructed of 6 separate classes covering a variety of the different aspects of caregiving. The class reviews the basics of caregiving on subjects like activities of daily living, behaviors, nutrition, activities, communication, and more. This class takes place each Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This class comes with a booklet with information about each course and can be attended in a flexible capacity based on the needs of the caregiver. TrembleClefs

TrembleClefs is a therapeutic program that utilizes singing for those with Parkinson’s disease. Founded in 1994, Tremble Clefs is a national program for those with Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s disease can often affect the throat, causing a decreased volume in speech and trouble swallowing. This therapeutic singing program addresses these symptoms and much more.Benefits of the Tremble Clef program can include:

VBMA Movement at the Museum

VBMA Movement at the Museum is an energetic seated and standing class that incorporates movement to music. In partnership with the Vero Beach Museum of Art, this program creates a lively and fun experience for the participants that provides an outlet for the expression of music and socialization encouraging a sense of community. This program takes place every Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Vero Beach Museum of Art.

Memory Screenings

What is a Memory Screening? A Memory Screening is a series of tasks and questions that takes place in a private setting.It takes approximately 20-30 minutes.Upon completion, the participant will receive a copy of the results to give to their physician.Early detection can assist your physician with a diagnosis, care plan and treatment. Who should have a memory screening? Anyone over the age of 50 should have a baseline memory screening as part of their regular yearly checkup, along with heart-rate, blood pressure and temperature. Call to schedule an appointment for a free and confidential screening.

Vero Beach Social Respite Group

A social group for individuals with forms of dementia, where caregivers can have respite knowing their loved one is in a safe and fun environment!  Each day features a variety of engaging activities such as: group exercise, brain games, toss games, art, music therapy, pet therapy, humor, and more! If you are staying for the full day, please bring a bagged lunch. Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  

Artful Engagement with the VBMA

We offer an art class every Monday during our social respite program. This program begins at 1:00pm and usually last until 2:00pm.  We create colorful art projects ranging from sculpture to watercolor, collage to paper mache'! 

Boxing for Parkinson’s

Boxing for Parkinson's is a non-contact class based on exercises that are adapted from the world of boxing that emphasize agility, speed, endurance, accuracy, hand-eye coordination, footwork, and strength. Instructed by a certified Rock Steady Boxing instructor. Boxing for Parkinson's takes place every Monday and Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the Omni Multipurpose Room next door to our main office. Call 772-563-0505 to register or for more details.

The Alzheimer & Parkinson Association hosts a Caregiver Support Group every month on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. This group was designed as a safe, non- judgmental place for caregivers of those with loved ones with various forms of dementia or movement disorders to gather and support one another.
