Artful Engagement with the VBMA

We offer an art class every Monday during our social respite program. This program begins at 1:00pm and usually last until 2:00pm.  We create colorful art projects ranging from sculpture to watercolor, collage to paper mache'! 

Stressbusters for family caregivers for those with dementia

Stressbusters for family caregivers for those with dementia is a program designed by the WellMed Charitable Foundation and hosted by the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association. This 9 week course dives deep into the caregiving role and the importance of managing the stress that comes with that role. We discuss the importance of avoiding caregiver burnout, stress management techniques, how to adjust your perspective, how to cope with changing circumstances, and much more. Memory Fitness for those with Movement Disorders

Those diagnosed with movement disorders sometimes fear memory loss is soon to follow. This class was designed to teach those with movement disorders techniques on how to keep their memory sharp through the use of brain games, mental stimulation, and fun! This class takes place each month on the third Monday of the month at 1:30 p.m. via Zoom. Please call for Zoom information if you wish to attend.

Boxing for Parkinson’s

Boxing for Parkinson's is a non-contact class based on exercises that are adapted from the world of boxing that emphasize agility, speed, endurance, accuracy, hand-eye coordination, footwork, and strength. Instructed by a certified Rock Steady Boxing instructor. Boxing for Parkinson's takes place every Monday and Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the Omni Multipurpose Room next door to our main office. Call 772-563-0505 to register or for more details.

Vero Beach Social Respite Group

A social group for individuals with forms of dementia, where caregivers can have respite knowing their loved one is in a safe and fun environment!  Each day features a variety of engaging activities such as: group exercise, brain games, toss games, art, music therapy, pet therapy, humor, and more! If you are staying for the full day, please bring a bagged lunch. Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  

Caregiver Support Group

The Alzheimer & Parkinson Association hosts a Caregiver Support Group every month on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. This group was designed as a safe, non- judgmental place for caregivers of those with loved ones with various forms of dementia or movement disorders to gather and support one another.

Support Group for those with loved ones in a Facility

The diagnosis of a memory disorder can be a daunting experience for both the caregiver and the patient. This can be especially true when your loved on is in a facility. This support group is unique in that it is designated for a caregiver whose loved one is in an facility. This group meets on Zoom every month on the third Tuesday of the month at 1:00 p.m. please call for Zoom details if interested in attending.

QiGong

QiGong is an ancient Chinese form of exercise that integrates slow moving motions with breathing techniques. This program was designed for those with movement disorders and their caregivers to improve balance and relieve stress. This program takes place every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. 

Parkinson’s Disease Exercise Class

This exercise program is geared towards helping improve or maintain balance for those individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease or other movement disorders. Participants, who are mostly seated through the program, are guided as a silver sneakers fitness coach guides them through various exercises that incorporates laughter and music.

Intuitive Tango for Parkinson’s

Held at the Alzheimer and Parkinson’s main office, Intuitive Tango for Parkinson’s offers a supportive and engaging environment where participants can enjoy a specially tailored tango class led by experienced professionals. This unique program focuses on improving balance, gait, posture, strength, and overall quality of life while fostering community and connection. Every Tuesday at 4:00 PM starting November 5th
