Memory Screenings

What is a Memory Screening? A Memory Screening is a series of tasks and questions that takes place in a private setting.It takes approximately 20-30 minutes.Upon completion, the participant will receive a copy of the results to give to their physician.Early detection can assist your physician with a diagnosis, care plan and treatment. Who should have a memory screening? Anyone over the age of 50 should have a baseline memory screening as part of their regular yearly checkup, along with heart-rate, blood pressure and temperature. Call to schedule an appointment for a free and confidential screening.

Vero Beach Social Respite Group

A social group for individuals with forms of dementia, where caregivers can have respite knowing their loved one is in a safe and fun environment!  Each day features a variety of engaging activities such as: group exercise, brain games, toss games, art, music therapy, pet therapy, humor, and more! If you are staying for the full day, please bring a bagged lunch. Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  

Land & Sea

The Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of IRC offers an offsite program that combines seated exercises with aquatic ones. Participants have mobility issues utilize this program, which is held at the Brennity of Vero Beach’s wellness center. The program begins with seated exercises and then progresses into pool exercises. The aquatic aspect of this program offers participants an easier outlet to provide exercise for those diagnosed with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, MS, or cerebellar ataxia.

Artful Engagement with the VBMA

We offer an art class every Monday during our social respite program. This program begins at 1:00pm and usually last until 2:00pm.  We create colorful art projects ranging from sculpture to watercolor, collage to paper mache'! 

Gifford Social Respite “The Breathing Room”

Gifford Community Center 4855 43rd Ave, Vero Beach

This is a social respite group for those with a memory disorders taking place at the Gifford Community Center every Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In this program we offer engaging activities such as group exercise, trivia, reminiscing, hand toss games, humor, and more! 

Boxing for Parkinson’s

Alzheimer & Parkinson Association 2300 5th Ave Suite 150, Vero Beach

Boxing for Parkinson's is a non-contact class based on exercises that are adapted from the world of boxing that emphasize agility, speed, endurance, accuracy, hand-eye coordination, footwork, and strength. Instructed by a certified Rock Steady Boxing instructor. Boxing for Parkinson's takes place every Monday and Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the Omni Multipurpose Room next door to our main office. Call 772-563-0505 to register or for more details.

Parkinson’s Disease Exercise Class

This exercise program is geared towards helping improve or maintain balance for those individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease or other movement disorders. Participants, who are mostly seated through the program, are guided as a silver sneakers fitness coach guides them through various exercises that incorporates laughter and music.
